Selecting duplicates

You can use the command to have File Buddy select subsets of duplicate file groups after a Find Duplicate Files search. This command is available in the menu accessed from the Duplicates toolbar item in the List window. The Duplicates toolbar item is not in the set of default toolbar items, but you can it by customizing the toolbar.

Choose the The first item in each group option to select the first item in every group of duplicates. The first item in a group is the first item encountered as you read the list from top to bottom, independent of how the list is sorted at the time the command is used. To have more control over which items are select in each group, use the Items matching these criteria option.

Use the following options to select items based on their modification dates:

Without regard to date

If this option is selected, modification dates are not used to determine which files will be selected.

All but most recently modified

In each group, select all items except the one with the most recent modification date.

Most recently modified

In each group, select the item with the most recent modification date.

Oldest modification date

In each group, select the item with the oldest modification date.

Use the following options to select items based on their location:

Without regard to location

If this option is selected, item locations not used to determine which files will be selected.

Files in folder or volume

In each group, select all items in the specified folder or volume. If a folder is specified, items will only be selected if they reside in any subfolder of that folder.

Files not in folder or volume

No items in the specified folder or volume will be selected.

If this checkbox is selected, File Buddy will leave at least one item unselected in every group of duplicates.
